Reading Habits

So I thought that this looked fun. Found it at AJ's blog, collections.

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack:
It's not possible for me. hahaha. I don't have multi-tasking skills.

What is your favorite drink while reading?
Whatever I picked out that sounded good.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Writing in books does horrify me. Unless it's the author signing it. ;)

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmarks. I looooove bookmarks. It's so much fun getting a new one.

Fiction, nonfiction, or both?
I rarely read nonfiction but I like both.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
I need to finish the chapter. I always feel messed up when I come back to read it and it's not the beginning of a new chapter.

Are you the type of person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
Nope. Maybe I'll say something out loud to myself, but I get a satisfaction of rating a book low on Goodreads if I didn't like it ;)

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
If it really bugs me than I will but usually not.

What are you currently reading?
The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan

What is the last book you bought?
The first book in The Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan

Are you the type of person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
I can read more than one book at a time but I prefer just reading one.

Do you have a favorite time/place to read?
I like to read at night in my bed before I go to sleep.

Do you prefer series books or stand alones?
I don't prefer one or the other just as long as they're good.

Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
Hunger Games

How do you organize your books?(by genre, title, author’s last name, etc.)
I used to organize them by author name but now I do it by colors. :) Love it.

Release Date: June 1st, 2010

Dexter College is a small liberal arts college in the quiet town of Home, Maine. But it won't stay quiet for long with this group of freshmen. There's Shipley--blonde and beautiful, the object of envy and more than a little lust. Determined to assert herself and to shed her good-girl image, she buys cigarettes and condoms, because that's what every self-respecting college girl does. Her edgy roommate, Eliza, came to Dexter to get noticed, and she has the attitude and the mouth to prove it. Then there's Tom. Handsome, privileged, used to getting his own way, he's a jock-turned-artist who thinks his paintings will change the world. Sensitive Nick, Tom's wake-and-bake pot-smoking roommate, wants to follow in the footsteps of his boarding-school hero. And then there are brother and sister Adam and Tragedy Gatz. The freckle-faced farm boy lives at home with his parents and his little sister, who does all she can to stop him from being a wuss.

New Idea

So I really like music and I think it would be a great idea if everyone could share what their favorite song or artist is at the moment. Next monday, if I'm still up for it, I'm going to start a new meme to do just that. I've already come up with a name for it but I'm gonna wait to reveal it. ;) Not that it's too cool top secret or anything, I just don't feel like sharing. I really want this blog to be more than just a YA book blog. Anyway, let me know what you guys think.

In the mean time... the song I can't stop listening to right now is Airplanes by B.o.B ft. Hayley Williams of Paramore. I absolutely love the lyrics that Hayley sings. And I found this graphic that goes with the song. So pretty!

OVERALL RATING ( 4 out of 5) :
Photobucket

Alright so after seeing the Twilight movies and being around people that are obsessed to the max, I'd lost my liking for it. This book rekindled the fire though. I usually don't read graphic novels so I was pretty happy when I ended up enjoying this book. I cannot explain how beautiful the pictures were. I don't know how to explain them. There were some that looked so life-like.The only thing that bugged me was the transitions between scenes. There didn't seem to be any at all. I don't know if thats common in graphic novels or not but I found it very slightly tricky to follow because of that. I wish this was the whole Twilight book but it was only up to the meadow scene so it left you at a cliffhanger. Even though I already know the story It did make me eager to read the next one. Bring on volume 2! Soon please. :)

Beastly

Love is a beast...

A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog but a horrible new creature who walks upright—a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.
You think I'm talking fairy tales? No way. The place is New York City. The time is now. It's no deformity, no disease. And I'll stay this way forever—ruined—unless I can break the spell.
Yes, the spell, the one the witch in my English class cast on me. Why did she turn me into a beast who hides by day and prowls by night? I'll tell you. I'll tell you how I used to be Kyle Kingsbury, the guy you wished you were, with money, perfect looks, and the perfect life. And then, I'll tell you how I became perfectly . . . beastly.
(Summary from Amazon)

OVERALL RATING (3 out of 5) :
Photobucket

I picked this book up because I love the Disney creation of Beauty and the Beast, and Beastly is also being produced into a movie! How exciting! Comes out this summer in July. Impatiently waiting! I think it looks better than the book.. Anyway, Beastly is a modern-day depiction of Beauty and the Beast, as you probably already figured out, set in New York City. Kyle Kingsbury wasn't exactly a prince but the people around him treated him as one. He was a beautiful person with an ugly heart and after wronging so many people, especially the witch, he got what was coming to him. I really liked how there were online chat sessions with other fairytale characters such as the little mermaid and the frog prince. It contributed to make the story modernized and gave me a kind of comic relief. I make it a point to try to figure out plot twists while i'm reading a book and i'm usually right at the end so I really love it when books can surprise me which is exactly what Beastly did to me. Although this was a retelling of a classic fairytale, there were a few tiny plot twists that made me think 'whoa, really?.'
Overall this was a pretty good book but only a 3 out of 5. I thought more could have been done with the plot that wasn't done. Also, I thought it was kinda weird when he'd make comments in his head towards the girl like, 'Yes, my love' or 'I could warm you.' Maybe it's just me, but I thought it was creeper-ish. I'd say this is recommended for people who enjoy the classic Beauty and the Beast, and fairytale lovers in general.
